Airlines confirm passenger information data breach

The aviation industry IT supplier “SITA” – which serves around 90% of the world’s airlines - confirmed that their organization suffered a data breach that enabled hackers to gain access to personal information of airline passengers, spanning across a multitude of airlines including, Cathay Pacific, Air New Zealand, and Lufthansa.
While the details of the security breach are still under investigation by SITA, a number of airlines have disclosed that customer frequent flyer data – such as name, tier status and membership number – were stolen as part of the breach.
